CORFU.Today is the second and final day of the telecom (OTE) workers’ strike. The workers stressed in their announcement that it is the first time they have come out against their employers Deutsche Telekom.

In their announcement they blast the German state company for their decision to reduce the number of permanent staff and replace them with hired workers, for selling off Balkan subsidiaries, collaborating with other companies in pricing policies and for measures they have taken which are detrimental to employees.
In their announcement, the OTE Workers Militant Cluster (ASE) calls upon workers to take part en masse in the strike and demonstrations, ‘to send a loud message against the company’s provocative stance’. They are demanding a minimum wage of 1.000 Euros for all the workers, a maximum salary of 5.000 Euros for executives and a new collective agreement for all workers in the OTE Group.
They also accuse the company of practices which are detrimental to workers, claiming that it uses hired workers despite having large daily profits, thousands of technicians are insured with IKA (National Insurance Company) as office workers and that the company infringes employment laws resulting in an increase of 200% in the number of workers’ accidents.
Furthermore, they condemn the company for the high salaries of top executives, giving the example of the annual salaries of the chairman and managing director which come to approximately 1.5 million Euros. Criticism is also directed towards the Hellenic Authority for Communication Security and Privacy (ADAE).
