Seamen ready to take industrial action

CORFU.The local Seamen’s Union held a meeting on Tuesday 17 October, which finished just after 3 pm.
According to the secretary, Theodoros Chrysikopoulos, the members decided unanimously to proceed with industrial action without yet setting the dates.
The local union has already met with the general secretaries from the ministry to no avail. Neither have local meetings of the seamen with the ship owners borne any fruit. Mr. Chrysikopoulos told us that progress regarding collective bargaining agreements remains ‘frozen’. So the anxiety to come up with an acceptable solution continues.
The seamen are expected to announce the dates for industrial action shortly and have called for understanding from the public as they claim, the satisfaction of their demands is in everyone’s interest.
