CORFU. Two officers of the Closed Prison of Corfu were arrested and indicted to trial with the charge of showing negligence to the escape of the 35-year-old Georgian prisoner on Saturday afternoon.
This was the outcome of the urgent preliminary investigation carried out by the Prosecutor of Corfu immediately after the escape. The indicted officers were released. The 35-year-old prisoner who attempted to escape is still hospitalized with leg fractures in the General Hospital of Corfu.
Regarding the fact of the escape, it seems that the prisoner occupied the prison officer, caught him off guard him and climbed up the wall and jumped out. The escapee was not noticed by the outdoors guard either.
The issue is still under investigation.
