Clearing Potamos ahead of boatyards’ relocation
CORFU. Contract signed to clear the site earmarked for the boatyard operators — infrastructure needed for them to begin operating is the next step.
Preparations are moving ahead at Potamos Bay, with a contract awarded for cleaning and clearing the site ahead of its development for the new boatyards. The relocation is linked to the removal of boatbuilding and repair businesses from their current location at the port, where a marina for large vessels is planned.
Corfu Port Authority (OLKE) signed a contract on 6 October worth €5,500 plus VAT. The entry in the Central Online Register of Public Contracts, published the same day, specifies a start date of 6 October and a completion date of 8 October. The contract covers the “cleaning and clearing of a site at Potamos Bay”.
This is the next step following approval of the expenditure and the invitation to submit a quotation issued on 25 September. The process has now progressed to a signed contract.
The clearing work comes ahead of the more substantial task: creating a site where the businesses can relocate and continue operating. According to an announcement made on 27 August by Deputy Minister of Shipping Stefanos Gikas, most of the business owners have signed the relocation documents, and OLKE will assist with the associated works, the most important of which is a shared slipway for hauling vessels out of the water and launching them.
The crucial next step, therefore, is to establish a clear timetable for preparing and handing over the new facilities. The relocation of the boatyards and the release of the existing site for the marina depend on this, while ensuring that the businesses are not left without suitable premises in the interim.
