Central Corfu Municipality cracks down with wave of fines for breaches of cleanliness regulations

CORFU. From parking in front of waste bins to unflattened cardboard boxes: the municipality is urging the public to cooperate in keeping the area clean.
Last week, the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Cleaning and Recycling Service found eight new violations of the Cleanliness Regulations.
The fines imposed concern the following violations:
- Disposal of waste outside recycling bins. €100 per fine for businesses and shops. Number of fines: 1
- Failure to minimise the volume of all types of waste generated by food service establishments, wholesale businesses, supermarkets, retail stores, etc. €400 per item, bag, or package. Number of fines: 1
- Placing waste outside bins. €100 per item, bag, or package. Number of fines: 4
- Parking vehicles in front of waste bins. €200. Number of fines: 2
A reminder that the following are prohibited:
- Disposal of waste outside bins.
- Disposal of recyclable packaging in green bins.
- Disposal of mixed waste in recycling bins.
- Disposal of unflattened cardboard boxes inside or outside bins.
- Parking in front of bins.
