Six-stremma car park at ‘Lyriko’ – Decision published in Government Gazette
CORFU. The site’s location can play a key role in relieving traffic congestion.
A significant development for our town has now been formally finalised, as the approval of the site-specific amendment to the town plan of the “Pagrateika” Urban Planning Study of the Central Corfu Municipality, at the “Lyriko” location, has been published in the Government Gazette.
Through this site-specific amendment to the town plan, the creation of an organised parking facility is approved on part of Block O.T. KF510 (designated use: Cultural – Social Center) in the “Pagrateika” Planning Unit, with a total surface area of 10,362.1 sq.m., without any changes to the building or street layout lines.
Publication in the Government Gazette constitutes a decisive step, as it completes a demanding administrative and urban planning process and enables the Municipality to proceed, within a clear and lawful framework, to the next actions for the utilisation of the site. The project addresses a documented need of Corfu Town, particularly during periods of increased visitor traffic, when parking pressures intensify.
The location of the property, with a surface area of 5,941.76 sq.m., secured direct accessibility, and proximity to key urban functions, can substantially contribute to easing traffic congestion by reducing vehicle circulation related to searching for parking spaces, as well as to the overall improvement of the area’s functionality, for the benefit of both residents and visitors.
This very important step effectively opens the discussion on establishing a controlled parking framework in the old town, with priority given to securing parking spaces for permanent residents.
