Parents protest reopening of 14th Primary School and Kindergarten without disinfection

01 Dec 2025 / 11:33

CORFU. The 14th Primary School & Experimental Kindergarten Parents’ Association is voicing its concern.

The Parents’ Association of the 14th Primary School and Experimental Kindergarten expresses its serious concern and protest regarding the decision to reopen the school on Monday, without prior disinfection of the areas affected by stagnant water, sewage, and debris left in the yard after the recent floods.

We have also been informed that the school’s outdoor area remains unsafe, resulting in pupils being prohibited from going outside to the yard. This means that they will be forced to remain inside the building during school hours.

Operating a school with an unsuitable outdoor area, without prior disinfection and without addressing the hygiene issues caused by the prolonged presence of contaminated water, does not ensure the minimum health and safety conditions for pupils and staff.

As a Parents’ Association, we consider it unacceptable for families to be asked to send their children to an environment that continues to pose public health risks. The decision to reopen the school without completing the necessary interventions creates legitimate concerns and places parents in an extremely difficult position.

We demand:

  1. Immediate disinfection of all areas where stagnant water or sewage was present.

  2. Restoration of proper sewage function and a detailed on-site inspection by the competent authorities.

  3. A reassessment of the suitability of reopening the school before pupils return.

  4. Official communication to parents regarding the measures that have been taken and the actual safety level of the premises.

The Parents’ Association will continue to closely monitor the situation and to advocate for what is self-evident: a safe, clean, and hygienic school environment for all children.
