Support local businesses says Trade Association
CORFU. Local shops and the Corfu marketplace are gearing up once again this year for the big sales season — Black Friday on November 28, followed by Cyber Monday on December 1.
Black Friday takes place on Friday, November 28, marking ten years since the foreign-born promotional event first entered the Greek market.
The international shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday (held online exclusively on Monday, December 1) remain single-day promotions—not multi-day campaigns—open to all businesses across the market, from small and medium-sized shops to large retailers. Participation, however, is not mandatory. The events traditionally signal the start of the Christmas shopping season, and participating businesses are required to adhere closely to the established legal framework.
The announcement also serves as a reminder to consumers that genuine bargains, personal service, and quality are found in local shops. The Trade Association calls on consumers to support neighbourhood shops, their employees, their families, and the small local businesses that keep the town active year-round despite rising costs, reduced purchasing power, and cautious optimism for retail recovery. Local professionals continue to offer reliable service and quality products, making the shopping experience more personal and trustworthy.
Under Greek law, commercial stores may open optionally on the Sunday following the last Friday of November. As a result, shops in Corfu are permitted to open on Sunday, November 30, with recommended hours from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
However, the Corfu Trade Association, following a Board decision, maintains its long-standing stance in favour of Sunday as a day of rest and recommends that businesses remain closed on Sunday, November 30.
