Heptanese Music Centre opens with pomp and ceremony

CORFU. There was packed attendance at the official opening on Sunday night of the Heptanese Music and Cultural Centre - established by the Corfu Choir in the old Olive Institute (16 Dairpelfd St.).

The opening ceremony was carried out by Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands and the regional governor, Mr. Galiatsatos, the Corfu mayor, Kostas Nikolouzos, were also present along with representatives from the local authorities, social and cultural organizations. The president of the Corfu Choir, Takis Metallinos, gave the opening address.

The School of Heptanese Music has already started operating this year, with classes in Harmony, Keyboards, Strings, Classical Guitar and Mandolin as well as Monody singing – all taught by renowned teachers.

The Centre also has a Traditional Chanting Workshop, including traditional Corfu and Ionian songs, which is open to anyone who is interested in traditional local chanting and the traditional songs of Corfu and the other Ionian islands.
