CORFU. Four anniversaries are being celebrated in Corfu this year. 100 years since the death of Spyros Samaras (composer of the Olympic Anthem), 200 years since the birth of Spyridonos Xinda (composer) and Domenico Padova and 150 years since the premier of the opera ‘The Parliamentary Candidate’.
For this reason the conference ‘Opera and Hellenism in the 19th Century’ (17-19 November) is being organized by the Greek Music Workshop of the Ionian University Music Department and the Corfu Philharmonic Society.
As part of the conference, there will be two concerts, which are also open to the general public:
17 November, 20.30 - Ionian Academy
Corfu Philharmonic Society Band – Adaptations of operatic pieces associated with the anniversaries. Conductor: Spyros Prosoparis.
18 November, 20.00 - Corfu Philharmonic Society Hall
Piano Recital by Spyros Deligianopoulos – ‘The Heptanese School in 88 piano keys’ with works by Samaras, Karrer, Laurentius Kamilieri and Deligianopoulos.
Admission is free to both concerts.
