Folk dances - traditional local festivals taking place July 1–2

CORFU. The beginning of July sees Corfu filled with the spirit of tradition.

On the occasion of the feast of Panagia Vlacherna (July 2), local cultural societies and organisations are hosting unique traditional festivals in various parts of the island. Corfu offers both residents and visitors the opportunity to come together, enjoying live music, traditional dances, local flavours, and plenty of festive spirit against the backdrop of the island’s most picturesque landscapes.

Event schedule (July 1 & 2)

Panagia Vlacherna (Kanoni): A two-day festival (Wednesday & Thursday) set against the backdrop of the famous chapel, featuring traditional food and live music from the Angelos Skolarikis band, Ta Paidia Ap' To Garouna.

Garitsa: The Cultural Society “To Alsos” is organising a musical evening on Wednesday, 1/7, with the Garitsa Choir. In addition, on both nights there will be a traditional celebration with souvlaki, roasted lamb, and dancing to the sounds of the Faiakes band.

Petrítis (Agia Vlaherna): Organised by Asteras Petritsi, the Cultural Society, and the Church, in the courtyard of Agia Kerkyra (start time: 20:00).

  • July 1: Vespers service followed by the opening (20:30) with performances by the cultural society’s dance group and choir.
  • July 2: In the morning, “tsioka” and grilled food will be served, while in the evening (20:30) entertainment will be provided by the Faiakes band. The venue will also offer souvlaki, loukoumades, and local treats.

Kato Korakiana: A large festival on Thursday, July 2 in Katomeri (Church of Saint Vasileios), with grilled food, drinks, and live music by the Faiakes band.

Agios Panteleimonas: The Cultural Society is organising the Morning Festival of Vlacherna on Thursday, July 2, next to the Dandolo Tower. The celebration begins after 11:00 in the morning and continues until late evening, with souvlaki, drinks, and music by the Faiakes band.
