Man dies after diving into sea in Paleokastritsa

CORFU. The 27-year-old man dived from a high rock just below the monastery but didn΄t surface. His death was confirmed when the body was pulled out of the sea.
A 27-year-old German was pulled out of the sea in Paleokastritsa by divers. The ambulance crew, who had been called out by bathers when they saw what had happened, confirmed his death.
The incident happened between 2:30 and 3:00 on Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses told the ambulance crew that they saw him diving from the rock just below the monastery and were concerned when they didn't see him surfacing.
Divers from the nearby diving school rushed to the scene, pulled him out of the sea, took him to Alipas harbour and called for an ambulance. There were no abrasions or other signs of injury on the body.
The body is now at Corfu Hospital, awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
