CORFU. Pots were smashed to ΄exorcise the evil΄.
It is hard for Corfiots to resist the tradion of smashing pots (botides) and crowds gathered at Pentofanero, despite the restrictive measures and the discreet police presence.
Nevertheless, the crowds broke up just after the First Resurrection and municipal crews arrived to sweep up the shards.
The First Resurrection takes place at 11 a.m. on Easter Saturday with church bells ringing out joyfully and across the island people smash pots to 'exorcise the evil'.
