CORFU. "The work in Spilia will contribute significantly to the much-needed recovery in the area and increase its value," said Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure Manolis Orfanoudakis.

The contract for the construction of a tourist harbour for leisure boats in Spilia (Cafe Yiali) has now been put out to tender by the Ionian Islands Regional Administration with a budget of €9.5m. The tender procedure will be administered via the National E-Procurement System.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Technical Works Manolis Orfanoudakis said, "The completion of the tourist harbour in Spilia was one of the main commitments of the Regional Authority before the elections. It was one of several major projects that had come to a standstill and are now being 'unblocked' one after the other thanks to the persistent efforts of the current Regional Authority in the 18 months it has been in office.

The work in Spilia will contribute significantly to the much-needed recovery in the area and increase its value. It is an important project that will create jobs and boost the local economy. This investment will put a breath of life into the development of infrastructure in Corfu."

The project

The land work at Cafe Yiali has a total budget of €9.5m including just over €693,000 from the Corfu Port Authority. The deadline for tenders is 31 March. The tenders will be opened online on 6 April and the work is to be completed 18 months after the signing of the contract.

On completion there will be a fully-operational tourist harbour for leisure boats in the centre of an important historical town which will be in complete harmony with the approved environmental requirements.

- Floating piers for vessels to dock.
