CORFU. Activities in Corfu Town on Friday - World Environment Day - and in Erimitis on Sunday.
The Coordination of Environmental Organisations and Corfu Citizens invites everyone to take part in the activities taking place this week to raise awareness, express solidarity and fight against the Hadjidakis Environmental Legislation.
Statement from the Coordination team:
"We are against the Legislation that will lead to the destruction of the environment on our island and all other policies detrimental to the environment.
- We call on everyone to take part in the events on Friday 5 June for World Environment Day
At 19:00 a march against the new legislation will set off from Old Town Hall Square
At 19:30 we will end up at Pentofanaro, where activities against damage to the environment will be held.
- On Sunday 7 June the Erimitis Plus Association is organising a guided excursion in Erimitis to raise awareness about Erimitis along with a clean-up of the area. Meet-up at 09:30 or 11:30 at Agios Stefanos Sinies.
We express our support for the residents of the Cycladic Islands, with Tinos in the frontline, against the wind turbines and all other investments serving external interests, as well as the residents of Stagiates, who are fighting to protect the village's springwater.
We call on everyone to help protect the Corfu environment, the quality of life and our natural and cultural heritage and identity.
We call on all cultural and environmental organisations on the island to contact us and work together with us.
