Evaluations have started in country΄s hospitals

CORFU. Daphne Kaitelidou: "The aim is to include hospitals in islands and tourist areas in the 2023 evaluation".
The first evaluation of the country's hospitals by experts from the newly established Agency for Quality Assurance in Health, which is under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and assists it, has begun.
As the Board President of the Agency for Quality Assurance in Health and Professor of Health Services Management at the University of Athens Daphne Kaitelidou told Enimerosi, the goal for 2023 is to extend the evaluation to 50% of the country's hospitals in order to figure out the state of their operation and make interventions for the scientific and administrative support of staff.
Corfu is still waiting
This action, which aims to evaluate hospitals ensuring equal access for patients by developing procedures and quality standards, started three months ago and the first results are already available for nine hospitals that revealed their weaknesses.
The stress test for Corfu has not yet been done. However, as Mrs. Kaitelidou explained, the aim is to include hospitals in island and tourist areas. "We do not know when it will be carried out in Corfu but we are interested in including hospitals located on islands, especially where there is tourism," she said.
However, Corfu is expecting with particular interest the visit of special support teams consisting of scientific advisors with high training and experience, whenever it takes place, due to the situation existing lately in the hospital with the series of resignations of doctors and understaffed clinics.
What they are looking at
In particular, the experts are expected to look at key departments of the hospital, such as the operation of the ICU and the Covid Unit, as well as bed occupancy and distribution of cases. The staffing of the hospital, the cooperation and cohesion of the teams, the training deficiencies, the infrastructure, the identification of patients, the operating theatre lists, the implementation of measures to prevent infections and the isolation of cases with infection will also be examined, while corrective and improvement measures will be proposed immediately.
Reassessment
Follow-up reassessment visits will also be carried out for to assess the progress in implementing the proposed corrective actions, as well as educational activities to adopt good practices and improve the nursing care provided.

(ODIPY S.A.), which was established in 2020, is assisting the Ministry of Health and all health care providers in the country, in their efforts to improve the level of safety and adequacy of health care services.
