The 18-year-old Department of Audio and Visual Arts is one of the most dynamic audiovisual departments in the country and has firmly established the animation festival on the yearly calendar.

Beginning today and for four days 282 films - 141 short films and 141 student films - from 50 countries will be shown online and be available globally exclusively to registered users with a password.

Free registration (via Google, Facebook or ICONA subscription): https://iconafestival.eu/2022/en/registration/).

"The idea for the festival came initially when we took part in a European programme," Department Head Andreas Yiannakoulopoulos told Enimerosi. "We decided to organise an animation festival with the main focus being on pupils and students. The festival has been warmly accepted and the increasing number of entries every year along with the high quality of the films has given us great pleasure."

Openings for collaboration

The aim of the Ionian Contemporary Animation Festival ICONA 2022 is to showcase the best animation films from around the world. It also aims to cultivate and assist in the development of the cultural heritage of animation films, to contribute to the creation of new films and offer openings for possible international collaboration as well as encourage dialogue between professionals, cinematographers and the public.

Over 1,300 entries

The fact that there have been over 1,300 film entries demonstrates how seriously the festival is taken in the field of animation. Nevertheless, the selection committee has been able to select the final 282 films from 50 countries - 141 short films and 141 student films.

Audience Awards

The festival programme can be found here: https://iconafestival.eu/ and the films, which include professional and student categories, will be shown exclusively online from Thursday 1 until Sunday 4 December.

At 18:00 (Greek time) on Sunday 4 December there will be an Awards Ceremony online for the successful creators and directors.

During the film screenings members of the public will have the opportunity to vote online and four films from each category will win Audience Awards.
