Moving memorial service for those executed on Lazaretto island

CORFU. The memorial service was held by the ΄Lazaretto΄ Association of Family & Friends of Executed Political Prisoners and Central Corfu Municipality.
The annual remembrance service was held on the historic island of Lazaretto again this year for the National Resistance Fighters of the Democratic Army who were executed and buried there between 1946 and 1949.
The service was organised by Central Corfu Municipality and the ΄Lazaretto΄ Association of Family & Friends of Executed Political Prisoners.
SYRIZA was represented by the former Marine Minister Theodoros Dritsas and Alexis Tsipras was represented by Corfu MP Alekos Avlonitis.
Corfu PASOK-KINAL MP Dimitris Biangis and Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou were also present.
Other attendees included former mayor Sotiris Michalef, former Regional Governor and ANASA leader Theodoros Galiatsatos, former Corfu SYRIZA MP Kostas Pavlidis and other local and regional councillors.
Students from the Ionian University Department of Music sang "Epesate Thymata" (You Were Victims) with lyrics by Petros Pandis.
