DIAPONTIA ISLANDS. The Ionian University Dean Andreas Floros and the Ionian Islands Regional Director of Education Petros Aggelopoulos were present at the events in Erikoussa.

The few residents of Erikoussa and Mathraki were moved by the school celebratory events held this morning for the national 28th October anniversary.

The two teachers, along with the four pupils of the island, welcomed them. Two of them are primary school pupils, while the other two, a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old boy, are the first pupils of the new nursery school.

The little boys are the children of one of the teachers, thanks to whom the island got this new school this year.

Pupils and teachers, dressed in the traditional tsolia costume, prepared a theatrical event for the few permanent residents of the island, giving joy to all those present who applauded them.

The school celebratory event in Mathraki was also special and touching. The only pupil of the school, 10-year-old Tasos, made the residents proud by singing the national anthem and a traditional song.

The event in Mathraki was the last one held on the island, at least for now, since the pupil and his mother are leaving the island in about a month and the school, which started operating for the second year, will close again.
