CORFU. The 28th October ΄Ochi΄ anniversary parade in Corfu.
The traditional parade to celebrate the national anniversary of 28 October 1940 will be held on Friday.
In Corfu Town the parade will start at 12:15 and go along agoniston Polytechniou and Agoniston kai Thymaton Polemou streets to the Old Palace. Scouts, pupils, units from the armed forces, police, port authority, fire department, border guards and philharmonic bands will be taking part.
Preceding the parade at 11:00 there will be a service at the Metropolitan Church Spiliotisas led by Nektarios, Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos and the Diapontia Islands followed by the formal message of the day given by Mirka Palioura from the Ionian University History Department.
The Government will be represented by Deputy Health Minister Mina Gaga, who will arrive in Corfu on Thursday to discuss problems at Corfu Hospital with doctors and other staff.
School rehearsals
Schools are already conducting rehearsals and there will be separate school parades on Thursday morning, the day before the anniversary. At 12:00 Ionian University students, school pupils, scouts and guides along with the town's educational authorities will lay wreaths at the Hero Statue accompanied by philhaarmonic bands.
