CORFU. EKAB’s new modified technical report is being evaluated by the Managing Authority.

Following months of delay from the Ambulance Service (EKAB), the procedure that will lead to a new invitation for tenders for the supply of 18 new ambulances for the Ionian Islands is starting. Nine of these vehicles will be for Corfu.

The project is included in the ESPA Programme, while EKAB is responsible for the supply process.

Unsuccessful tender

The tender with a €1,376,400 budget last February was unsuccessful and since then the Ionian Islands Region was waiting for the preparation of a new technical report by ESPA.

"We were constantly contacting EKAB for this matter", the Deputy Governor for Public Health Melita Andrioti told Enimerosi. "Finally, EKAB sent the budget amendment (€1,736,000) to the Managing Authority on 3 October. We have requested that the evaluation and approval be sped up as much as possible, so that the decision can be signed by the Regional Governor. We hope that by the end of the year the new tender will have been announced", added Mrs. Andrioti.

Donation of ambulance to Ithaca

It is also expected that an ambulance will be handed over tommorow to Ithaca by the company 'Energy', in the presence of the Prime Minister. Melita Andrioti will also be present.

The Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa stated the following: "The donation of the ambulance to Ithaca by a private company was welcomed and caused great satisfaction, which proves the local community's need for the protection of health and life.

The fleet of ambulances expected, along with the two water ambulances with which the Ionian Islands Region reinforced the Coast Guard through an ESPA Programme, will increase the residents and visitors' sense of security."
