CORFU. Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas met with Corfu Airport Director Spyros Kostouros.
Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas met with Corfu Airport Director Spyros Kostouros yesterday.
Mr. Gikas was updated on a number of issues regarding the operation of the airport and there was a wide-ranging discussion on improvements that are expected to begin in the very near future.
Stefanos Gikas isseued the following statement to the local press:
I visited our airport today and was given a comprehensive update on its operation by the director Spyros Kostouros.
It is expected that there will be a record number of arrivals this year - well over 2 million - and the large numbers are expected to continue in October.
I can confirm that the airport responded successfully to the very high demands it faced this summer and operated more than satisfactorily.
I would especially like to point out the significant improvement works worth over €30m which will begin very soon. This will be a new and extremely beneficial investment by Fraport with funding from the European Investment Bank. In this way the second point of entry to our island after the port will be significantly upgraded.
Once the work has been completed, Corfu will have one of the most modern and improved airports in the country, which will considerably help the further development of the island.
