Continued funding for waste management facility from next ESPA programme secured

CORFU. The seamless continuation of the tender process for Corfu Waste Management Facility has been secured.

The Ionian Islands Solid Waste Management Organisation (FODSA) announced that there had been a crucial working meeting on Wednesday 27 July. The subject of the meeting was the progress of the tender process for Corfu Waste Management Facility.

The meeting was called by the Regional Governor and FODSA President Rodi Kratsa and top government representatives took part; Public Investment & ESPA General Secretary Dimitris Skalkos; Special Secretary for ETPA Programme Management and Cohesion Fund Giorgos Zervos; General Secreatry for the Coordination of Solid Waste Management Manolis Grafakos; Nikos Mamalougas as well as board members, Katerina Mothonaiou and Nikos Miliotis - representatives from the Ionian Islands Regional Administration, and Central Corfu Mayor and FODSA Vice-President Meropi Ydraiou.

At the meeting it was confirmed that there will be a seamless continuation of the tender process for Corfu Waste Management Facility and the continuation of funding from the new ESPA Programme period was secured - under the new technical conditions and specifications which have recently been updated - as well as the support of FODSA throughout the whole tender and construction process.

According to the statement from Fodsa, following the latest postponement of the tender procedure the time was utilised to update the planning of the facility in line with all the latest technical specifications and guidelines recently laid down by the European Community with regard to Waste Management Units.

In this way, continued funding for the Facility from the new ESPA Programme 2021-2027 has been secured and an Integrated Waste Management Facility will be built on the island with both mixed waste and sorted waste, reducing the amount that ends up at the landfill.
