CORFU. When the contract is signed, a deposit of €192,000, equal to one year΄s rent, will also be paid.

Two months after the tender was awarded to Stavros Ioannou Group, the procedure for the lease of the former Aktaion Cafe is expected to be completed, in order for the municipal property to officially be handed over to the new lessor.

According to the Central Corfu Deputy Mayor for Finance Giorgos Pantelios, the contract for the lease of the municipal property is expected to be signed next Monday, 4 July - barring unforeseen circumstances. As he explained, when the contract is signed, a deposit of €192,000, equal to one year's rent, will also be paid. It is also worth noting that the monthly rent for the property is €16,000.

Delay

However, the process of leasing the property to the new owner did not proceed quickly considering the time that has passed since the tender was held (5 May).

Mr. Pantelios told Enimerosi that although the records of the tender for the lease were approved a few days after by the Finance Committee (at the meeting on 16 May), they were then sent to the Decentralised Administration, while in early June the draft agreement was requested by the Group's legal representatives for review.

However, in order for the process to be completed soon, the Central Corfu Municipality requested that the procedure be sped up and it seems that the contract will be signed in a few days, in order for the property to officially be handed over to the new lessor.

“When the tender notice was issued by the Finance Committee, the tender process continued and now the contract will be signed with the lessor on Monday 4 July - barring unforeseen circumstances - along with which he will also pay a deposit as we were informed”, Mr. Pantelios told Enimerosi.

It is worth noting that the property will be used exclusively as a catering establishment, while the duration of the lease is six years but there is a possibility to extend it for six more years.
