More problems arise for Vidos shuttle service

CORFU. “If the shuttle services stop at 19:00, Vidos will be exclusively available to IKOS customers in the evening,” said Spyros Neratzis.

The Vidos shuttle service has overcome many problems, but now it is facing more.

After all the problems were overcome and the shuttle service finally started after three postponements, the competition is now putting the skipper in a difficult position. He is claiming that he does not earn enough, especially following the increase in fuel prices. It is worth noting that according to the contract he is obliged to transport the municipal employees, campers, people with special needs, children, etc. for free, while many visitors are being transported by the competitor.

Under these circumstances, the skipper informed the municipal authority that there will be no shuttle service after 19:00.

The responsible councillor for Vidos Island, who submitted his resignation earlier today, told Enimerosi that under these circumstances and since the restaurant has no leased area for visitors that are not customers, Vidos is returning to its previous condition. “If the shuttle services stop at 19:00, Vidos will be exclusively available to IKOS customers in the evening,” he explained.

“Our proposal to the local authority to discuss the issues regarding the shuttle service and the lease of the area for the visitors was exactly for this purpose. The solution we proposed was for the municipality to subsidise the shuttle services for this year.

If we choose to end the contract, we will be left without a municipal boat again. The proposal for the lease - on the municipality's terms - would be a way to attract people to the island in the evening as well,” said Mr. Neratzis.

He also said that “the municipality maintains that decisions should be taken by the municipal services, but as I explained in my letter about what led me to resign, I believe that policy needs to be established which is then followed”.
