Outraged Enimerosi reader to file a lawsuit against DEYAK

DEYAK

A foreign house owner in North Corfu warns of legal action because of water supply problems.

The Belgian owner of a tourist accommodation in Kalami has no more patience, as due to water supply problems he has to compensate his customers, while a child drank water from the pool, believing it to be drinkable! He informed that he is going to file a lawsuit for negligence and threatening public health.

What made the Enimerosi reader angry is DEYAK's behaviour. However, the main reason that led him to make his problem public, as he said in his letter, is that this situation is a disgrace to the island.

The letter to Enimerosi

My name is Jérôme Deuson, I am from Belgium, but I own a home in Loustri, Kalami, since 2019. I am renting this house mainly to families. I do not live on the island but I take care of the house all year round. The house has a good water installation (with a 5,000-litre tank). Since I bought the house in 2019, the problem with water cuts is getting worse and worse.

For the last 10 days my house has no water and I had to compensate my customers as they could not enjoy their stay on the island in these conditions. The situation is the same in Loustri for all residents.

People cannot use the toilet, take a normal shower or just use water for cooking. Some people filled a plastic bottle with water from the pool to clean some of the kitchen areas, but one of their children thought it was drinking water. As a result, the child had a severe case of diarrhea.

Last year I had to pay for a service that never did anything for the residents of the island. I paid over €2,700 for water even though I really doubt that it was actually consumed.

More about DEYAK...:

For over 2 years I also had a puncture in the pipes resulting in water running from it to the back of my house. I duly noticed DEYAK more than 8 times at their office in Acharavi where someone almost told me that I can go complain somewhere else.

All of this lost water was not of their concern as they were not interested in fixing anything. They told me that they only have one plumber for North Corfu. As if I was responsible for their inability to find good people to hire. The consequence of the problem is that the back of my house was infested with snakes due to the constant water leakage.

Attached to this email are photos proving that I saw people filling fake reports and never did anything.

In the end I fixed a DEYAK matter myself even though it was not my responsibility.

DEYAK’s behaviour:

The people at DEYAK deliberately do not matter talking to residents about the water cuts in my area. They are arrogant on the phone, they even hang up claiming they do not understand, even when you speak extremely slowly.

A disgrace to the island:

It is a European island whose economy is based on tourism. But the water service is worse than a third world country.

I pay unbelievable amounts of taxes to Corfu (more than 20% on any income from the travellers), astronomical electricity bills, notary fees, lawyers,... I participate in Greece's good economy and I cannot understand how nobody on the island is doing anything to alert the media and the municipality about this.

I am not trying to alert the local authorities and media just because I am losing money, I am doing this because I love and respect the island. I feel that it is a jewel ruined by people like DEYAK. Every year, Corfu loses tourists' confidence because of problems like this. And despite all my effort and dedication in trying to participate in the local economy, I feel angry. Really angry.

I do not intend to let things go on like this and I will press charges against DEYAK and Corfu Town for negligence, health issues and non-assistance to person in danger in case a fire occurs from next Wednesday at the Corfu Police Station. I also intend to assign the case to a lawyer. If there is one thing I learned in my life: don't push people too far, they might come back right at you.
