18.5 million for ‘Ballos’ damage to be paid in two installments

CORFU. The Ionian Islands Region will receive 8.5 million in 2022 and 10 million in 2023 from the Ministry of Finance.

The Ionian Islands Region will receive the money requested for technical works to repair the damage caused by the ‘Ballos’ storm with a 6-month delay. In a recent meeting with officials of the Ministry of Finance, the last details of the technical report prepared by the Ionian Islands Region were discussed. The Ministry said that €8.5 million will be paid this year and the remaining €10.5 million will be paid in 2023.
 
The last obstacles regarding the payment of the €18,500,000, which concerns the necessary technical works for the repair of the damages caused by the ‘Ballos’ storm, have been overcome.
 
A third teleconference was held, where issues related to the technical report were discussed. The technical report was prepared by the Ionian Islands Region and concerned the repair of the damage caused in Corfu and Zakynthos. Present at the teleconference were the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, the Deputy Regional Governors for Finance, Technical Works & Infrastructure and Corfu Katerina Mothonaiou, Manolis Orphanoudakis and Kostas Zorbas, the Deputy Minister to the PM Christos Triantopoulos, the Public Investments & ESPA Secretary General Dimitris Skalkos, as well as officials of the Ministry of Finance.
 
Following the discussion and after all the last details of the technical report had been settled, the €18,500,000 will finally be paid. In particular, according to the Ministry, €8,500,000 will be paid to the Ionian Islands Region this year and the remaining €10,000,000 will be paid in 2023.
 
It is worth noting that according to the technical report, which was sent by the Ionian Islands Region to the Ministry of Finance, the €15,500,000 concern the necessary repair works in Corfu, while the remaining €3,000,000 are for Zakynthos.
 
The list of the affected businesses, which are entitled to compensation, has already been sent to the Ministry of Finance and, therefore, the payment of compensation will begin soon.
