CORFU. Spectacular Resurrection ceremony in Upper Square!
Spianada Square was packed last night with thousands of lit candles as Corfu celebrated the Resurrection.
The Holy Light arrived later than expected due to the delayed arrival in Athens from Jerusalem. It was taken to the Church of Agia Paraskevi, where there was a service led by Archbishop Nektarios before going to the small pavilion in the Upper Square.
Fireworks lit up the sky as night became day and the crowds of people enjoyed the spectacular, colourful sight. The three Corfu Town philharmonic bands performed 'Graikoi' (Greeks).
After two years of restrictions due to the pandemic, Corfu was able, once again, to celebrate this spectacular, traditional event.
