Removal of waste from Diapontia Islands once a month

The Marine Ministry will subsidise the use of an open ferry boat to remove dangerous and obtrusive waste as well as building materials from the Diapontia Islands.
Mayor Meropi Ydraiou made the announcement and the waste removal will begin immediately and continue until the end of the year. From 2023 the contract will be put out to tender.
The terms and conditions will be announced later, as will where the waste will be taken - to Corfu or elsewhere until there is a proper waste management facility.
The way things are developing, Corfu will have the most 'well-travelled' and expensive waste.
Mayor's statement:
"To our great satisfaction, we were informed that the Municipality's request was accepted by the Maritime Minister Mr. Plakiotakis and an open ferry boat will be used to remove dangerous and obtrusive waste as well as building materials from the Diapontia Islands. The waste will be removed once a month from June to November in 2022 and then the contract for monthly waste removal in 2023 will be put out to tender. We would like to thank the Minister for his immediate response and his support for our coastal islands."
