CORFU. No ferries - Protest demonstrations

The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Civil Servants Confederation (ADEDY) are holding a 24-hour nationwide strike today, stating that "Wages are too low and the bills too high". Unions are demanding wage rises and measures to counter the high cost of living so that everyone can live with dignity.

In Corfu the following, amongst others, are taking part: the Workers Centre and ADEDY public employees and employees in social insurance, tax offices, municipalities as well as accountants. Health services are operating with emergency staff only and there are no ferry services.

Journalists are also taking part with a work stoppage between 12:00 and 15:00.

Flights operating normally

Flights will operate normally at all the country's airports. Following an appeal from the Civil Aviation Authority, the court judged the 24-hour strike declared by air traffic controllers and electrical and telecommunications engineers to be illegal.

The main demonstration will take place at 11:00 outside the former prefecture (opposite Municipal Theatre). At 10:30 the teachers unions will hold a demonstration at the high schools, in which Corfu SYRIZA will also take part.

There will also be a press conference at the Chamber of Commerce at 13:00 with the following taking part: OEBEK, Ionian Trade Federation, Corfu Trade Association, Association of Restaurateurs & Connected Professions.
