CORFU. Passengers will travel to Düsseldorf with another aircraft belonging to the sane company.

A Eurowings Airbus A320 remains grounded at Corfu Airport after making a forced landing yesterday directly after take-off, as the starboard engine had 'sucked in' 14 seagulls.

The aircraft with its 164 passengers had been travelling to Düsseldorf.

Passengers remained in Corfu overnight and will be travelling to their destination today at 15:50 on another aircraft belonging to the same company.

Civil Aviation Authority Employees Union President Dimitris Roussos told Enimerosi that the aircraft is grounded at Corfu Airport and is awaiting a change of engine, which is the normal procedure when these incidents occur.

What happened

The incident occurred at 18:20 on Sunday evening as the plane was taking off. It ran into a flock of seagulls and the starboard engine 'sucked in' 14 of them.

The pilot immediately turned round and requested to land at the airport again.
