CORFU. Only 11 flights landed at Corfu Airport on Thursday.

Weather conditions are changing from hour to hour but, nevertheless, from this morning flights have been able to land at the airport as visibility has improved.

Civil Aviation Employees Union President Dimitris Roussos posted on social media that yesterday's "unluckiest" flight from Turin was able to finally land at 09:49 this morning.

Ryanair flight 1729 set off from Turin at 09:20 yesterday and attempted to land at Corfu Airport during the first wave of bad weather, but wasn't able to and went to Brindisi instead. At around 16:00 it took off from Brindisi but was caught by the second wave when it again tried to land in Corfu. This time it went to Thessaloniki.

The plane and passengers stayed there overnight and tried once again this morning at 09:00, this time managing to land successfully at Corfu Airport.

Just 11 flights

The severe weather conditions and poor visibility caused problems for planes trying to land yesterday. According to Dimitris Roussos, out of the 39 flights scheduled only 11 landed - including three out of the five domestic flights.

Mr. Roussos said that there were a few hours of improved weather conditions, during which several schedulled flights were able to land, but then conditions worsened once again in the afternoon for about 4-5 hours, creating poor visibility and a large number of planes were forced either to return to their original airport or find somewhere else to land.
