Nearly all health workers who were reluctant have now been vaccinated

CORFU. Employees΄ Union to hold protest at hospital entrance at 07:00 on Wednesday morning.
The threat of suspension has led to most of the health workers who were reluctant to get vaccinated, according to verified sources at the Mega vaccination centre. Thus, the number of unvaccinated hospital employees has been reduced considerably. Nevertheless, the situation is still uncertain as we reach the deadline set by the Ministry of Health.
Up to Tuesday afternoon it was estimated that there were approximately 15 of Corfu Hospital staff who were unvaccinated (including cleaners and technical staff). The positions of those who are suspended are expected to be covered by private crews, in the case of technical staff, or internal redistribution of staff. The same sources consider that it would be difficult to cover the vacant positions by recruting auxiliary staff on a thrree-month contract.
It should be noted that all the hospital doctors are vaccinated apart from a very small number who were infected and thus have recovery certificates.
95% of the nursing staff have been vaccinated.
"Considering that nurses were already 45% understaffed, even one of them being suspended will create problems," the President of Corfu Hospital Employees' Union Dina Ioannou told Enimerosi. "The load will have to be taken on by the rest of the staff, who have already had their leave suspended again - and all those on leave have been called back."
Ms. Ioannou added that, according to the Ministry of Health directive, health workers who get vaccinated after 1 September will not be able to return to work immediately as 14 days have to pass after the vaccination. Those who are suspended will also have to return the two weeks wages that have been prepaid. "We will be protesting against mandatory vaccinations again at the hospital entrance at 07:00 on Wednesday morning," said Ms. Ioannou.
"There aren't many doctors and nurses who haven't been vaccinated," said the Deputy Regional Governor for Public Health Kostas Zorbas. "It is mainly technical staff (plumbers) and cleaning staff etc. According to the hospital, there is a plan in place so that there will be no problems for the patients and the general operation of the hospital."
Health Centres
The personnel at Corfu health centres have been vaccinated. The Director of Corfu Health Centre Sophia Mavropoulou-Kavadia told Enimerosi that 52 out of the 54 staff at the Centre have been vaccinated and the other two will be getting vaccinated. The other three health centres - Lefkimmi, Agios Markos and Agios Athanasios - also have no real problem.
Ambulance Service (EKAB)
Corfu Ambulance Service workers have been getting vaccinated over the last few days and there are very few who remain unvaccinated. "The situation will become clearer today as regards how many are vaccinated," said the President of Corfu Ambulance Service Employees' Union Christos Kypriotis. "Nevertheless, the service won't have any problems."
Suspensions
Those who haven't been vaccinated by today's deadline will be suspended and there is no guarantee that when they return to work they will retain the same position.
From 1 September, the online platform is expected to be available for those who wish to apply for auxiliary positions to cover the vacancies left by unvaccinated health workers.
