ATHENS. The 9 airports that this would apply to are Corfu, Heraklion, Chania, Rhodes, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini, Athens and Thessaloniki.

The Government will probably lift quarantine restrictions for travellers who have been vaccinated or test negative for Covid-19 from Monday 19 April.

This will apply to travellers from the EU as well as the USA, UK, Serbia, United Arab Emirates and Israel (for which there isalready a bilateral agreement) and is the official recommendation to be discussed by the committee of experts which is meeting on Friday.

So it is more than likely that from Monday, when the previous Civil Aviation Authority NOTAM expires, travellers from the EU along with the five aforementioned countries will be able to enter Greece at nine airports without having to undergo mandatory quarantine after arrival on the condition that they have proof of vaccination or present a negative PCR test performed less than three days prior to their trip. The nine airports are are Corfu, Heraklion, Chania, Rhodes, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini, Athens and Thessaloniki. The same will apply to those arriving by land at the two main entry points.

Until 19 April the ban is still in place on entry into Greece from outside the EU and Schengen Area. Only citizens from the following 10 countries are excluded from the ban: UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand, Rwanda, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Russian Federation and Israel.

Until 19 April all passengers entering Greece from any foreign country, including European Union member states, must self-isolate either at their home (for permanent residents) or at the place of temporary residence declared on the PLF, for 7 days. If they are to stay in Greece for a shorter period, the quarantine restriction is valid for that period of time, ie until their departure.

If the test is positive for the coronavirus then he/she must quarantine for a total of 14 days.

Officially, as Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis has regularly stated, this year's tourist season in Greece will begin on 14 May, when, if nothing changes, entry will be allowed to travellers from other countries on condition that they have been vaccinated or or present a negative PCR test.

Russia

In the meantime, Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis arrived in Moscow yesterday to attend a series of meetings with Russian tourism sector representatives. It should be noted that Athens has said that it recognises the Sputnik V vaccine.

During his visit to Moscow, the Minister has meetings planned with, amongst others, representatives from Russian tourist organisations and agencies such as Tez Tour, Mouzenidis Travel, Biblio Globus, Pegas, Ambotis, Coral and TUI.

Today, Thursday, Mr. Theoharis is meeting with the head of the Russian Federal Tourism Agency (Rostourism), Zarina Doguzova, and Russia’s deputy minister of Transport, Dmitriy Zverev.

As has been officially stated, there is great interest in Russia for the restart of Greek tourism following last year's successful opening of the tourist season.
