Nearly the whole of Europe is red apart from Finland and most of Greece, which are orange. The Ionian Islands, Epirus, the Cyclades and the Dodecannese are the only green areas in the EU.

Nearly the whole of Europe is 'in the red' according to the weekly map published today by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The only exceptions are Greece, Finland and Iceland, which are in the orange band.

Greece also has the only green zones (lowest rates) in the EU - the Ionian Islands, Epirus, the Cyclades and the Dodecannese.

Green - the 14-day notification rate is lower than 25 cases per 100.000 and the test positivity rate below 4%.

Orange - the 14-day notification rate is lower than 50 cases per 100,000 but the test positivity rate is 4% or higher or, if the 14-day notification rate is between 25 and 150 cases per 100 000 and the test positivity rate is below 4%

Red - the 14-day notification rate is 50 cases per 100,000 or higher and the test positivity rate is 4% or higher or if the 14-day notification rate is higher than 150 cases per 100,000.

Grey - there is insufficient information or if the testing rate is lower than 300 cases per 100,000.

ECDC does not collect data for the UK, Switzerland, Balkan countries (apart from EU members), Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.

ECDC maps are updated every Thursday according to the recommendation of the European Council whose objective is to implement a coordinated approach amongst EU countries regarding the restriction of movement to tackle the pandemic.
