CORFU. Once again Climathon is being held in dozens of towns and countries around the world as it has been since 2015.

For the first time Corfu will be taking an active part in this global event to raise awareness about climate change and what needs to be done. It will be hosting a 24-hour online Climathon marathon offering people on the island the opportunity to take part, put forward proposals, be inspired and create innovative solutions to the global environmental challenges.

Climathon is organised by EIT Climate-KIC and is supported by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology. Its aim is to support local initiatives to tackle climate change.

The local group Mindspace along with Garbage Art Corfu are organising the Climathon in Corfu on 21 and 22 November in collaboration with the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality and the Athena Research Centre. The topic will be "Reduction of plastic pollution - focussing on disposable plastic items at catering establishments".

Everyone is invited, regardless of age, to take part in Climathon Corfu 2020 with the only requirement for participation being their creativity and, most of all, their good will.

The best and most inspired ideas to come out will be passed on to the global Climathon platform and will have the opportunity to receive awards at a special online event on 21 January 2021.

More information can be found on the Facebook Page and the website that has been created for the event.

"Because everything starts off as an idea, we look forward to your participation so that we can make our world a better place," say the organisers. "Now we have the way and the opportunity."
