Central Corfu Municipality care for stray animals

CORFU. "The health and well-being of animals is directly linked with our public health and culture," says Deputy Mayor Chrysoula Tombrou.

The Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality is providing care and protection for stray animals on a daily basis and ensuring their health, well-baing and safety in the following ways:

Increase in the number of feeding points and replacement of worn out equipment at several spots around town and elsewhere.



- Anemomylos (next to the children's playground)
- Garitsa (next to the treatment plant)
- Upper Square (behind the public toilets
- Rizospaston Voulefton St. (next to Bernardis travel agency)
- Mandouki (in the park opposite the port entrance)
- San Rocco Square
- Temploni (2 feeding spots)
- Liapades (2 feeding spots)



- Setting up feeding spot for cats next to the Old Fortress entrance at Kontra Fossa (Karvouniaris) in collaboration with the Fishinng Society.
- Acquisition of animal food so that feeding spots can be kept continuously supplied.
- Ensuring that members of animal welfare organisations have movement permission in order to feed stray animals.
- Management of stray animals via an integrated programme including sterilisation, vaccination, deworming, placing chips and sheltering them for a few days to try and get them adopted.

The Deputy Mayor responsible for the programme Chrysoula Tombrou said, "Care for stray animals, especially in the unprecedented circumstances we are facing, continues to be an everyday priority for Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality as the health and well-being of animals is directly linked with our public health and culture."
