CORFU. The boat was taken to the Coast Guard base at Gouvia Marina this evening.

The boat is suspected of being the one involved in today's tragic incident at Avlaki beach on Monday morning when a 60-year-old British woman was fatally injured. The speedboat driver disappeared following the incident and is being sought by the Coast Guard.

A few hours later the Coast Guard spotted a suspicious boat, which they took to Gouvia Marina and lifted out of the water to carry out a thorough examination. According to information, two people who were on board will be giving statements. The investigation is still at the initial stages with questioning being conducted and a forensic team examining the evidence.

The autopsy of the 60-year-old British woman, who lived in a private villa in North Corfu, is expected to be conducted on Tuesday. Her body was taken to Corfu Hospital after the ambulance and Coast Guard had been called by nearby bathers.

The autopsy will be conducted by the Medical Examiner Yiannis Aivatidis at Corfu Hospital.
