KASSIOPI (NORTH CORFU). NCH Capital: We begin work in the autumn - Save Erimitis: They΄ll come up against a human wall.
There was even greater enthusiasm than usual on Sunday when friends of Save Erimitis gathered to clean up the area.
Stressing the opposition of the community to the Government's decision to go ahead with the investment, setting aside the 'obstruction' of the local authority, the Erimitis Plus Association stated that this year's clean-up was 'aimed' at the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa.
"On Sunday morning we set out with passion and enthusiasm to carry out our annual organised clean-up of the Erimitis coast!
In response to the invitation from Erimitis Plus lots of people, young and old, took part in a celebratory atmosphere, expressing their love for the Erimitis ecosystem!
Erimitis - which belongs to them and which they want to remain an unspoiled jewel in northeast Corfu for all to enjoy. Erimitis, which offers its beauty for all to find peace and rest for their mind and eyes...
The joy at the environment and nature's magic could be seen on everyone's face as well as the anger at those planning to destroy it...

Let the so-called investors and brainless politicians get it into their heads that Erimitis belongs to us - the people of Corfu - and will continue to belong to us. If they dare to go ahead, they will come up against a human wall."

A different viewpoint was expressed in a recent statement by Andreas Santis, CEO of the American Group for the Western Balkans, Greece and Cyprus.
Regarding the timescale and details of the investment in Kassiopi, Mr. Santis said: "We are at the final stage gefore receiving building permission. There has been a delay in the examination of the document by the relevant authorities due to the pandemic but it is near completion.
Meanwhile, we are preparing the selection procedure for choosing the constructor and this will go ahead once the permission has been granted - as this is a necessary prerequisite. Following this, the project will begin without delay.
It is feasible that this will be after the summer - in September or October - if everything goes according to schedule. We have no influence over what is out of our control.
The project includes a luxury hotel with about 90 rooms, a few luxury apartments, villas and a marina for tourist boats.
The development will be completed in two phases. The first phase, the construction of the hotel and other units, will be completed in two years; the second phase, the construction of the villas, will take a further three years.
Consequently, we calculate that the completion of the whole project will take five years. The complex will be managed by a large hotel chain, which has already been selected. The cost of construction will be approximately 120 - 130m Euros."
