Greece΄s Restart Tourism plan - see the timeframe!

ATHENS. International tourism begins on 15 June with flights to Athens Airport opening up - All airports open on 1 July - Yachting begins this coming Monday.

The plan for the restart of tourism as part of the government's overall plan for the restart of the economy.

Greek Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis presented the timeframe:



Monday, May 25: Yachting restrictions will be lifted - considered to be the safest tourist activity.

Monday, June 1: Camps, campsites and year-round hotels will open.

Monday, June 15: All other accommodation (seasonal hotels and resorts) will open. On the same day, the first stage of lifting restrictions on international flights will take place, with aircraft landing initially only at Athens Airport

Wednesday, July 1: Second stage of lifting restrictions on international flights at all Greek airports.

July 15: Gradual lifting of remaining restrictions

Mr. Theoharis said that incoming tourists will not need to have a coronavirus test prior to travel nor will they be quarantined after arrival.

However, visitors will undergo sample tests when deemed required.

1st Stage - from 15 June

- Lifting of restrictions on international flights to Athens Airport.
- Entrance of incoming tourists initially from countries chosen based on “epidemiological criteria”.

Other criteria are also being looked at such as road arrivals, middle-distance flights, diaspora communities.

2nd Stage - from 1 July

- Lifting of restrictions on international flights to all Greek airports.
- People from all countries will be allowed to travel to Greece, except from countries that have negative epidemiological criteria. A list of those countries will be released in a timely manner.
-  The epidemiological criteria of countries excepted in the 2nd stage will be monitored.

The Tourism Minister said that business plans for small island resorts will be developed.

Health capacity will be enhanced. 20 new test labs will be set up on islands as well as 600 COVID beds.

Health cover will also be provided by nearby resorts and a transfer time of less than than 2 hours will be guaranteed. Facilities on mainland Greece will be used.
