ATHENS. Foreign Ministers from 11 countries, including Greece, will be taking part in a video conference to coordinate travel and tourism. The meeting, which takes place today Monday 18 May, is the initiative of German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias discussed it on RND and journalist Marina Korbaki.
Mr. Dendias said: We are cooperating with our EU partners and the initiative of my opposite number in Germany Heiko Maas is extremely important. On Monday the Foreign Ministers of Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Portugal, Malta, Slovenia, Cyprus and Bulgaria will be holding a discussion to coordinate our policies on tourism and the gradual lifting of border controls on as wide a basis as possible in order to restore free and safe travel within the EU.
Furthermore, on the initiative of myself and the Foreign Minister of North Macedonia, on 19 May there will be a discussion with all the Foreign Ministers of the region - EU and Western Balkans - on the careful return to normality and cooperation for our mutual benefit.
Greece is gradually coming out of the pandemic crisis and returning to normality. Travel within the country is being freed up, our hotels are getting ready to open, our beaches are open once more and archaeological sites are open to the public again. We are responsibly lifting the measures one by one with the focus being on the safety and protection of all of us. In close coordination with our partners we are also looking to gradually return to normality as regards travel.
In the midst of the pandemic Greece has become safe for its citizens. We naturally also want it to remain like this for our tourists, who are hoping to be able to come and enjoy the beautiful Greek summer this year.
