CORFU. The kind donation of 20,000 protective masks follows a previous donation from German friends of Corfu.

The 20,000 masks were donated by North Corfu resident Thomas Czernin Morzin.

In a press release Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris said:

"From the very beginning of the pandemic outbreak the first priority of the North Corfu Municipality has been to protect public health. Due to the fact that there was a lack of protective masks in the Greek market the Municipality contacted friends of Corfu living abroad.

These efforts bore fruit and North Corfu Municipality, via German friends of the island, was able to obtain 800 masks and 1,800 disposable gloves which it gave to Corfu General Hospital as a contribution towards the collective efforts being made to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Following that donation of masks from German friends of Corfu there now comes a gracious donation of 20,000 protective masks from Mr. Thomas Czernin Morzin, friend and resident of North Corfu.

"Every act of kindness, whoever it comes from, is of great value to our most vulnerable citizens," said the North Corfu Mayor. "Solidarity always makes us stronger and I wish to thank Mr. Morznin for his generous and important contribution. This donation is another step towards what we want to achieve all together in order to protect our fellow citizens, to allow people to stay in contact with their families and limit the isolation felt by the elderly during the pandemic." These people deserve congratulations and their acts to be made public and hopefully copied by others. Sensitivity, sympathy, humanity and solidarity, participating in common efforts and donations demonstrate the values that are the foundation of our society.

He referred to the fact that the Municipality of North Corfu has taken a series of measures and initiatives to contain the spread of coronavirus and protect the public and workers and give support to the Municipality's vulnerable groups.
