Young Corfu athletes hoping for medals
GYOR, HUNGARY. The two Corfu athletes Spyridoula Karydi and Panayiota Dosi are amongst the Greek athletes in Hungary to take part in the European Under-18 Athletics Championships (5-8 July).
The two young Corfu athletes are hoping to win medals - something which is within both their capabilities. Spyridoula Karydi is more likely to do well and is focussing on the triple jump, although she will also take part in the long jump.
"I'm very excited," said Spyridoula. "At last I'm taking part in the event I was aiming for this year - the triple jump at the European Championships. I'm basically looking for a good performance and why not a medal! I have prepared well, I'm feeling good and hope that everything goes perfectly. There have been several changes this year - I started training with Mr. Skordilis and a lot has changed in the training and since the beginning of the year I have been focussing on jumping events."
Spyridoula Karydi has done 13.11 metres which is the third best amongst the 35 athletes taking part in the triple jump at the Championships.
"I'm very happy to be taking part in the Championships," said Panayiota. "From what I saw at the Greek Championships in Katerini I'm in good shape. I've been training properly for one-and-a-half months now and we decided that I shouldn't take part in any events in the meantime so as not to exacerbate the problem I had and to be completely ready for the Championships in Gyor, which is what I've been focussing on this year. My performances give me hope that I can do well but I don't want to feel any anxiety. I want to jump as well as I can and produce the best performance I can."
Panayiota Dosi has jumped 1.83 metres this year which is the third best amongst the 29 athletes taking part in the high jump at the Championships.
