Government Spokesman meets with Enimerosi
CORFU. The government spokesman, Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, invited the Enimerosi newspaper owner to meet with him at the Development Conference in Corfu.
The government communications staff offered the local media access to the government’s sources. They offered to intercede in order to help regional journalists, who have a harder time getting information than the accredited, specialist journalists of the Athens media.
Giorgos Katsaitis, Enimerosi owner, reiterated the proposal for organized briefing of regional media representatives by members of the Greek diplomatic staff in neighbouring countries. This would improve the coverage of events that are beyond those at a local level and which are discussed at higher political levels. Something of this nature existed when Giorgos Papandreou was at the Foreign Ministry - initiated by the late Mr. Lionaraki. Mr Lionaraki’s death and political developments, however, served to halt the initiative.
