CORFU. 100 large bags of waste - pillow cases, towels, bathrobes and linen - from the hotel Capo Di Corfu have gone for recycling rather than to Temploni.

The head of the voluntary group 'All Together for Corfu' Spyros Neratzis has expressed his satisfaction at the active participation of hotels in recycling.

"The most important business sector on our island, hotel owners, is now taking an active part in the recycling of clothing, giving the lie to doubts about Corfiots' ecological conscience and willingness to adopt recycling as a way of life.

The Capo Di Corfu Hotel in Agios Petros, Lefkimmi is the first hotel to respond to the Hoteliers' Association's suggestion that its members take part in the recycling of clothing and footwear.

We would like to thank them for their response and the Hoteliers' Association, especially the President Babis Voulgaris, for supporting these initiatives.

Today a large volume of pillow cases, towels, bathrobes, rugs and beach towels which can't be used any more didn't go to Temploni or Lefkimmi. A total of 100 large bags with 12,534 items.

The Corfu public continues to demonstrate its awareness and willingness to take part in these efforts and is showing quite clearly that it is determined to be part of the solution to the waste problem.

It is up to us to support them with the appropriate infrastructure in line with all the modern methods based on the principles of the circular economy.

We would like to thank the hotel management, Nikos Giorgiadis, Sakis Papadopoulos and all the personnel for their care and love for the environment and the island.

Thanks also to the smiling haulier Dinos and the now-permanent volunteers Vassilis Merkouris and Vassilis Meliopoulos."
