CORFU. From today there is a Cretan olive tree in the ΄hospitable΄ Corfu soil at Afra Primary School.

The tree was presented by the volunteer group 'Let's do it Greece' to launch its volunteer campaign in Corfu - part of the national campaign which will continue until 10 May 2020.

A team from Let's do it Greece were at Afra Primary School today (22/11) to present a Cretan olive tree, which pupils and teachers planted in the school grounds, taking part in the launch in Corfu of the national campaign of voluntary clean-ups which takes place every year with volunteers of all ages throughout Greece.

With the slogan 'For the change you want' volunteers from all over the country will take part in the biggest simultaneous environmental act on 10 May 2020 coordinated by Let's do it Greece 2019-20. School principle Spyros Mamalos said, "Corfu will be an enthusiastic participant! All together we can make our island beautiful by cleaning up our forests, beaches, roads, waterfalls, wonderful sights, town and villages".

School pupils and teachers took the opportunity to plant other trees - donated by Central Corfu Municipal Green Service - in the school grounds.

The Let's do it Greece campaign has for years been encouraging pupils and teachers, municipalities, environmental and other community organisations, businesses and volunteers of all ages to take part in a solution to the problem - demonstrating in a practical way their desire for a cleaner environment.

"We hope in this way to raise the awareness of parents, the local community and everyone else to create an environment that is cleaner, more ecological and more human."
