Regional Governor: We never sent a request for the riot police (MAT) to come to Lefkimmi

CORFU. Following claims by Civil Protection Minister Olga Gerovasili.
Following the publication of Minister Olga Gerovasili's statement during her visit to Corfu that it had been requested that the riot police (MAT) be sent to Corfu, the Ionian Islands Regional Governor replied with the following statement in order to clear up any misunderstanding:
"Because generalisations can lead to misunderstandings and questions about our role in the presence of the MAT in South Corfu we would like to make it quite clear that neither the Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos nor the Regional Administration ever sent a written request for the MAT to come to Lefkimmi. On the contrary, we pushed for an exhaustive dialogue on the issue of waste management and the blame for its failure must be sought elsewhere."
