There was an increase of 13.6% in the number of passengers at the 14 airports in the second month of the year compared to 2018.

According to Fraport Greece there was a total of 590,000. There was an increase of 8% in the number of domestic passengers compared to February last year.

There were double-digit increases in Cephalonia, Sontorini, Mykonos, Kos, Aktion, Samos, Mytilene and Chania. Increased numbers were also recorded at Corfu, Zakynthos and Thessaloniki airports.

Domestic passenger numbers decreased at Kavala, Rhodes and Skiathos airports compared to 2018.

The company explained that the decrease in Kavala was due to the fact that during the corresponding period last year airlines used the Alexander the Great Airport in Kavala instead of Thessaloniki Macedonia AIrport due to work being carried out on the runway at the latter.

International passenger traffic increased by 26.2% last month mainly due to Thessaloniki and Chania airports. There were double-digit increases at Aktion, Chania, Rhodes and Thessaloniki airports.

During the first two months of 2019 a total of approximately 1.21m passengers passed through the 14 airports managed by Fraport Greece - an increase of 12.9% compared to last year, mainly due to the significant 24.9% increase in international passenger traffic.

There was a 7.4% increase in the number of domestic passengers for the period January-February 2019.
