Record number of participants in this year΄s Corfu Folklore Festival

CORFU. Preparations are well underway for the 22nd Corfu Folklore Festival which will take place at the Municipal Theatre.
The 3-day festival will take place from Friday 22 March to Sunday 24 March 19:00 - 22:30 with admission free.
A record number will be participating this year. At the meeting that took place at the Laodama office 37 dance groups from throughout Corfu registered. These are from the following areas:
Agios Mathaios, Arillas, Afra, Acharavi, Velonades, Vitalades, Gastouri, Giannades, Gouvia, Corfu Macedonian Union, Corfu Epirus Society, Kavalouri, Karousades, Kassiopi, Kastelanous, Kastelanous Primary School, Kato Garouna, Kompitsi, Kontokali, Korakiana, Krini, Kinopiastes, Lefkimmi, Benitses, Nymphes, Pelekas, Perithia, Petriti, Platonas, Corfu Pontian Association, Sinies, Strongili, Sinarades, Temploni, Chlomos, OK Dance Group and of course the organizer's dance group Laodamanta.
With such a strong representation of the island's culture the organizers believe that it could be called "The folk tradition of Corfu dances!"
It was decided at a meeting last year that the 22nd Festival would be mainly with adult dance groups and the next one will be more of a children's festival.
"We celebrate a day like this in Corfu in the most expedient way with dance, singing and traditional costume, sending messages from this special day - many of which are just as relevant today - to society," said the President of Laodamanta Dimitris Kantas. "I hope that the 23rd Festival can be organized by some kind of federation or association of cultural bodies from Corfu and Paxos, which we weren't able to do this year as we had planned."
The Festival is co-organized with the Regional Administration for Corfu and Corfu Municipal Organization for Culture, Sport and the Environment (DOPAP).
