Municipality urges people to sort at source

CORFU. The Municipal Cleansing Services issued a public announcement in which it says it aims to reduce the amount of waste going to Temploni and increase recycling.
The announcement
With good coordination and the marvellous efforts of the personnel along with the utilisation of all means available to us to a great degree the piles of rubbish on the roads have been cleared up.
With the gradual restoration of refuse collection the Cleansing Services will ensure that there is a sufficient number of waste bins and at the same time remove those that are damaged or destroyed.
Our main aim is to restore the collection of recyclable materials and increase the percentage. In this way we will be able to reduce the amount of waste going to Temploni.
We will follow two main course of action in order to encourage sorting at source:
- We will increase the number of blue bins on the main roads where there are businesses so as to collect purely recyclable materials as much as we can.
- We will work with the communities, local councils and organizations to set up recycling collection points.
For this reason we would like to ask all businesses and members of the public to help by separating recyclable materials from the rest of the waste, reducing the bulk by tying them up and placing clean containers in the blue bins.
